What to Bring to Your Newborn Photography Session | Newborn Photographer Melbourne West
One of the best things about a newborn photography session is that you don't need to pack up your entire house before you come!
When you're already getting out the door with a newborn, a nappy bag and possibly older children, the last thing you need is a long list of things to remember.
For your newborn photography session, I recommend bringing the things you would normally take with you when you're heading out with your baby. I'll take care of the rest.
Bring your usual nappy bag
Your normal nappy bag is all you need. Bring whatever you would usually have with you when you're out and about with your baby, including:
Nappies
Wipes
Any feeding supplies you need
A dummy if your baby uses one
Anything else that helps you feel prepared when you're out with your baby
I always have some spare wipes available in the studio too, so don't worry if you run out.
You don't need to bring a newborn outfit
This is one thing you can cross off your list!
You do not need to bring a special outfit for your baby. I have a selection of newborn pieces available for your session, so we'll have everything we need for your baby's photos.
Of course, if there is something special you'd really love your baby photographed in, you're welcome to bring it along. It might be a knitted blanket from a grandparent, a special item of clothing or something meaningful to your family.
But there is absolutely no pressure to bring anything extra.
What about blankets and props?
You don't need to bring blankets, wraps or props for the session either.
I have everything we need here and will choose what works with your baby and the style of your session.
My preference is to keep newborn photos simple and focused on your baby and your family, rather than filling the session with lots of props.
What should parents bring?
For parents, I'd recommend bringing a change of clothes if you have room in the car.
Otherwise, just come dressed in whatever we've planned for your session and bring yourself.
If you're unsure about what to wear, I've also put together some tips on what to wear to your newborn photography session.
For your older children
If you're bringing siblings along, think about what you would normally pack for them when you're heading out for a couple of hours.
A snack, drink, favourite toy or comforter can be helpful, particularly if you have a toddler who might need a little distraction between photos.
You don't need to bring activities specifically for the photos. Sometimes a little snack break or a favourite toy is all they need.
I also have colouring books and pencils for your older children to use while they settle into the space.
Feeding supplies
Whether you're breastfeeding, bottle feeding or doing a combination of both, bring whatever you would normally need.
Your baby can feed whenever they need to during the session. There is no need to try to time their feeds around your photos.
We'll take breaks whenever they're needed.
The most important thing to bring
Bring your baby, your family and your normal nappy bag, that's really about it!
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly settled baby, a toddler who is ready to smile or a suitcase full of newborn outfits and swaddles.
Newborn sessions are relaxed and baby-led, so we work with whatever your family needs on the day.
If your baby needs a feed, we'll stop.
If they need a nappy change, we'll stop.
If your toddler needs a break, we'll take one.
There's no need to stress about getting everything exactly right.
My goal is for your newborn photography session to feel as easy and relaxed as possible, while capturing those little details and moments that you'll want to remember for years to come.
If you're looking for relaxed newborn photography in Melton or Melbourne's Western Suburbs, I'd love to capture this special stage for your family.
